Twin-Tip^® combines two validated diagnostic tests:

• sense of touch with the 10-g Monofilament and
• temperature discrimination with Tip-Therm

The sense of touch and temperature on the foot are of particular practical significance as they provide an immediate protective function in everyday life – this is particularly relevant and important for persons affected with diabetes. An intact temperature sense protects from possible thermal damage, while an intact sense of touch protects from mechanical foot lesions.

This is why both of these sensory functions are referred to under the term “protective sensitivity”. From a practical view it seems logical to regard the examination of this “protective sensitivity” as a functional unit and to have a corresponding instrument available that tests both of these functions.
